Our group members attended the 19th IWA World Conference on Anaerobic Digestion (IWA AD19), held in Valencia, Spain, from June 9-13, 2026. The group's participation included workshop sessions, oral presentations, and poster contributions, showcasing recent advances across several areas of anaerobic biotechnology. Take a look the research highlights and key findings that our team brought to AD19:

Raúl Muñoz and Raquel Lebrero contributed to the Workshop Tracks with the following presentations: “Biogas upcycling to added value bioproducts”, “Upgrading biogas or burning it? Pathways to energy self-sufficiency in 2045”, and “Biogas Upgarding”.

We were pleased to share our group's latest research through the following oral presentations:
Plenary speech “Broadening the Bioproduct portfolio of anaerobic digestion via Biogas and Digestate Bioconversion” by Raúl Muñoz
“Turning Dark Co-fermentation By-products Into Single Cell Protein With Mixed Culture Purple Phototrophic Bacteria” by Jesús Montoya
“Piggery Wastewater Treatment By Purple Phototrophic Bacteria” by Leonel Rojas
“Novel Compact Multichannel Reactor For Biogas Valorisation Via Ectoine Production” by Andrés Torres
“A Comparative Study of Thermophilic H₂-assisted Ex-situ Biogas Upgrading in a Biotrickling Filter Under Different pH. 19th IWA World Conference on An” by David Garrido
“Exploring the potential of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles in enhancing anaerobic digestion yields of lipid-rich wastewater” by Analissa Russo
“Optimisation Of A Monolith Multichannel Bioreactor For Methane Bioconversion Into Ectoine” by Bruna Sampaio
Finally, our group also contributed several poster presentations showcasing the latest advances in methane upgrading and organic biomass valorization:
“Enhanced Ectoine Production From Methane In A Taylor Flow Bioreactor” by Raquel Herrero
“Metagenomic Study of a Two-Stage Lactate-Driven Dark Fermentation Process Transforming Food Waste into Hydrogen and Carboxylates” by Cristina Martínez
“Integrated Anaerobic Digestion of Microalgal Biomass Coupled with a Photobioreactor for Biogas Upgrading” by Marcelo Fuentes
